China Daily reported that the incident happened outside of a designated ski trail early in the afternoon and resulted in one person buried and killed. A quick look at CalTopo reveals a few pockets of in-bounds avalanche terrain, and huge, steep slopes to the Northwest of the ski area. In January 2024, ten days of continuous snowfall in the region brought a widespread, major avalanche problem, burying 31 miles of road up to 23 feet deep."
