Colorado Skier Makes Pilgrimage To Alabama's Only Ski Area
"Skiing and Alabama don't seem like two words that would be in the same sentence, but Cloudmont Ski & Golf is fighting that, opening for skiing and snowboarding whenever conditions allow. It seems like a pretty unique experience, with a single rope tow serving the small ski hill. SRG Skiing took the trip from Colorado to Alabama earlier in February to give the hill a shot."
"Despite the ski area being closed, SRG managed to get permission to operate the rope tow and take some laps. Huge props to the staff at Cloudmont for being so friendly and letting him get on the snow. Snow coverage was extremely patchy and the snowcat was broken down, but the spirits seemed impressively high. Unfortunately the ski season for Cloudmont appears like it's over this year unless something changes with the weather."
Cloudmont Ski & Golf in Alabama opens for skiing and snowboarding whenever conditions allow, operating a small hill served by a single rope tow. SRG Skiing traveled from Colorado to Alabama in early February to try the hill and obtained permission to operate the rope tow even while the area was officially closed. Staff at Cloudmont allowed access and were described as friendly. Snow coverage on the hill was extremely patchy and the snowcat was broken down, reducing grooming and lift operations. Season prospects appear poor unless weather changes, making further skiing unlikely this year.
