Cody Townsend, Tommy Caldwell, and Bjarne Salen Complete Bold Winter Traverse of California's Highest Peaks - SnowBrains
""It was an adventure that pushed me beyond ways I thought possible. It was an adventure of three buddies leaning on each other's different skill sets to complete.""
""Being out there was a lot of 'What's the best way forward?' We had to make decisions on the fly about how to get around. That's what makes it an adventure.""
Cody Townsend, Bjarne Salén, and Tommy Caldwell completed the first winter traverse of the 13 highest peaks in the Sierra Nevada. Over eight days, they traveled more than 100 miles and ascended 40,000 vertical feet through mountaineering, technical rock climbing, and ski descents. The journey involved complex route finding due to snow-covered trails. Townsend emphasized the importance of partnership and decision-making during the adventure, which he described as unforgettable. A film documenting their experience is anticipated soon.
