Brundage, ID, Report: Fast, Scenic Groomers and Extraordinary Sidecountry Laps - SnowBrains
"We started our visit with a few warm up laps on the Bluebird and Centennial chairlifts. The morning fog that clung to the valley floor on our drive in had lifted and we soaked in the sunshine while spinning a few high speed laps. After so much powder skiing on the Panhandle portion of the Gem Line, skiing fast corduroy required a bit of a mental shift."
"After a delicious bowl of brisket chili from the lodge, we decided to venture into Brundage's popular sidecountry terrain. A "Low" avalanche forecast from the Payette Avalanche Center and favorable observations from over the weekend provided some confidence in exploring a new-to-us area. We did a quick beacon check at the gate near the top of the Bluebird lift and headed North out of the ski area."
Brundage Mountain, north of McCall in the Payette National Forest, delivers groomed runs, expansive tree skiing, scenic vistas, and a laid-back vibe. Morning fog cleared for sunny warm-up laps on the Bluebird and Centennial lifts, prompting an adjustment from powder technique to fast corduroy. The Beer Cat was absent at the Centennial base. A brisket chili lunch preceded a sidecountry outing supported by a “Low” avalanche forecast and favorable recent observations. A beacon check was completed, then a northbound exit out of the ski area. Initial laps produced deep, soft tree turns and a popular skin track, while a large treeless bowl invited further exploration.
