A backcountry skiing accident occurred near Haines Pass, resulting in one death and injuries to another skier. The group of five triggered a Size 4 avalanche while ski touring. The avalanche buried one skier completely and partially buried another. The deceased was extricated by surviving members before rescue personnel arrived. The avalanche danger was rated as 'considerable' at the time, indicating a likelihood of human-triggered avalanches. The B.C. coroner's office is investigating the incident.
