5 U.S. States With The Most Ski Areas
"If you were to guess which state has the most ski resorts, you might point toward California, Utah, or another state in the Western United States. But shockingly only one state in the top 5 is west of the Mississippi River. The other four are either on the East Coast or in the Midwest. The National Ski Area Association releases annual statistics on ski resorts and skier activity around the country, including where ski resorts are located."
"4. Wisconsin - 34 Granite Peak is the largest ski area in the state, offering 400 acres of skiing and snowboarding. Wilmot Mountain is featured on the Epic Pass. 3. Colorado - 34 Vail is the largest resort in Colorado, with 5,317 acres of skiable terrain. Telluride, Crested Butte, Beaver Creek, Vail, Keystone, and Breckenridge are all featured on the Epic Pass. Aspen Snowmass, Steamboat, Winter Park, Copper Mountain, Arapahoe Basin, and Eldora are all featured on the Ikon Pass."
New York leads the nation with 52 ski areas, followed by Michigan with 40, Colorado and Wisconsin each with 34, and New Hampshire with 30. Four of the top five states are located on the East Coast or in the Midwest, leaving only one west of the Mississippi River. Vail is the largest Colorado resort with 5,317 skiable acres, while Granite Peak in Wisconsin offers 400 acres. Several major resorts participate on national season passes: Epic Pass features multiple Colorado resorts, and Ikon Pass includes Aspen Snowmass, Steamboat, Winter Park, Copper Mountain, Arapahoe Basin, and Eldora.
