Vonn, Kim, Shiffrin named to Olympic team; Anderson misses out
""Growing up, when I saw older professional snowboarders decide to have a family, it seemed like there was no room for them in the sport and they disappeared," Anderson, 35, told ESPN early in her return. "Now there's a movement to support women in careers and sports who want to have families. To have the opportunity to try and represent the U.S. at a fourth Olympics with my family alongside me, that's a win.""
""In many ways, making this team is even harder than the Olympics themselves," snowboard program director Rick Bower said in a statement. "The depth of our field is incredible, and selection truly came down to the wire.""
Jamie Anderson, a three-time Olympian and two-time Olympic gold medalist in snowboard slopestyle, was omitted from the U.S. Ski & Snowboard 97-person roster, ending her bid for a fourth Games after the births of two daughters. The roster features veterans Lindsey Vonn, Mikaela Shiffrin and Chloe Kim, with Vonn aiming for a fifth Games at 41 and Kim pursuing a third consecutive gold. Snowboard program director Rick Bower said selection came down to the wire because of roster depth. Anderson returned showing flashes of her former form, finishing sixth in a World Cup Big Air and earning Best Trick at the Rockstar Energy Open. Anderson also dealt with setbacks, including a broken right wrist.
