The Mount Hood Stunt Bag Where Olympic Snowboarders and Skiers Train
"I've never ridden something like this,"
"It was a first for me, and I don't get to say that much having such a long career in the sport."
"There's no other airbag in the world that's open all year long, You have some kinks you need to work out, you can come here and easily do that within a week."
Wy'East Mountain Academy installed an 80-foot-by-200-foot inflatable airbag at the base of Mount Hood, the largest and first of its kind in North America. The airbag provides a low-consequence training surface that allows elite skiers, snowboarders, and academy students to refine big-air tricks year-round. Comparable setups exist only in Austria and Switzerland, while smaller airbags appear at US Ski & Snowboard headquarters in Park City and temporarily on Mammoth Mountain. Retired pro Shaun White, an investor and alum, and members of the US Ski & Snowboard team have used the facility ahead of the Milan–Cortina Winter Games.
