Mikaela Shiffrin entered the Olympic slalom as the favorite after an 11th-place giant slalom that represented a major comeback. She recently returned to a GS podium following a November 2024 crash in Killington that impaled her abdomen and required intensive physical rehabilitation. Recovery also demanded addressing post-traumatic stress and rebuilding the mental connection between mind and body. In the race she skied smooth, tight lines, converting nervous energy into intensity and taking power from the course, finishing within a few tenths of the podium and closing the gap on the fastest women.
