Medical professionals considered her lucky to survive, and there were doubts she would ever ski again after undergoing numerous operations. However, Lorraine demonstrated remarkable determination and made a successful comeback, representing Ireland in multiple alpine skiing events at the World Winter Games in Italy, much to her family's pride and honor.
The medical people more or less said to us 'you're lucky to have her' it was that serious an accident, and waiting for news felt eternal.
Lorraine's most severe injuries were to one of her legs, leading to fears she would never ski again, but she was determined not to bow out.

We were pretty certain that was the end of her skiing, but in fairness Lorraine didn't agree with that assessment.
