""This has been an incredibly hard few days. Probably the hardest of my life. I still have not come to terms that he is gone... The day I crashed, so did Leo. He had been recently diagnosed with lung cancer (he survived lymphoma a year and a half ago) but now his heart was failing him. He was in pain and his body could no longer keep up with his strong mind.""
""My boy has been with me since my second ACL injury, when I needed him most," Vonn wrote in Wednesday's post. "He held me on the sofa as I watched the Sochi Olympics. He lifted me up when I was down. He layed by me, and cuddle me, always making me feel safe and loved. We have been through so much together in 13 years.""
Lindsey Vonn crashed while competing in the Milan-Cortina Olympics on Feb. 8, suffering a complex tibia fracture that will require additional surgery. The day after the crash, her longtime dog Leo died after a recent lung cancer diagnosis and failing heart; Leo had previously survived lymphoma about a year and a half earlier. Vonn adopted Leo from an animal shelter in January 2014 after he had been hit by a car and suffered a bad knee. Leo provided companionship and support through Vonn's multiple injuries and comebacks over 13 years, often lying by her side and comforting her. Vonn characterized the recent days as probably the hardest of her life while preparing for another surgery.
