Here's what Tahoe's dismal snowfall could mean for the rest of the season
""which is quite warm and contributed to the lack of snowmaking.""
""There is always hope, but not likely for the first two weeks of December," Allegretto said in an email. "Hopefully some storms around mid-month into the 3rd week of the month, but right now there is no confidence in any big storms for the next 10+ days.""
Unseasonably warm temperatures have left Tahoe ski resorts struggling to open, forcing limited terrain and delayed openings across the region. Palisades Tahoe is delaying its opening and running only beginner magic carpets; Kirkwood plans a limited opening on Friday; Northstar expects a limited opening on Saturday; Mt. Rose has opened. Warmer-than-normal conditions have hampered artificial snow production, with November about 4 degrees warmer for Tahoe City than normal. Significant new natural snowfall is unlikely in the near term, with low confidence in big storms for the next 10+ days and only a chance of storms mid- to late-December. About one in four seasons begins with similarly low natural snowfall.
