Watkins recited lyrics from Taylor Swift's "Alchemy" and slipped a blue-and-white sapphire ring set in white gold onto Johnson's left-ring finger as U.S. ski team members surrounded them. The proposal followed Johnson's crash during the race when her right pole clipped a gate; she tumbled into the catch fence but was unhurt. The couple met on a dating app, and Watkins only learned of Johnson's elite skiing status about ten minutes into their first date. Watkins works in construction.
