The San Diego Padres are set to be sold for a record price of $3.9 billion to Jose E. Feliciano and Kwanza Jones. This sale surpasses the previous record of $2.4 billion for the New York Mets. The sale requires approval from 75% of Major League Baseball's owners. Feliciano, co-founder of Clearlake Capital, will be the controlling owner. He and Jones outbid three other bidders, including Tom Gores and Joe Lacob. The Padres were put up for sale by the family of late owner Peter Seidler in November.
