Santa Clara County expands hotel program for homeless residents - San Jose Spotlight
Briefly

Santa Clara County is bolstering its hotel shelter program for North County's homeless population as the Palo Alto modular housing site faces delays. WeHope, a nonprofit, has been awarded a $1 million contract to temporarily shelter 40 unhoused adults in hotels. The initiative, aimed at providing a safe environment and case management, recognizes the urgent need for single adult shelter beds since the county's Sunnyvale shelter has shifted focus to families. This response comes after Bill Wilson Center's operations change, which displaced many existing single residents.
"We are going to implement the same type of program because it's already proven to be successful, in the way it's getting people off the street, getting them into a safe environment and then getting them connected to services that they deserve to have," Pastor Paul Bains, founder of WeHope, told San Jose Spotlight.
Having more shelter beds for single adults in North County is an urgent need since the county-owned Sunnyvale shelter no longer provides beds for this demographic.
