Mohamed Hadid's failed $50 million megamansion in Los Angeles, nicknamed "Starship Enterprise," is now being offered in a sealed-bid auction. Starting at $7.9 million, the auction ends July 16. The site was recently demoed down to its foundations under court order due to safety concerns, and now permits a new 15,000-square-foot home. Hadid's initial attempts to build faced legal challenges, resulting in bankruptcy and a 2019 ruling necessitating demolition. Sahara Construction, which bought the property for $5 million, previously tried to sell it for $18 million without success.
"If this house came down the hill it would take a portion of the neighborhood with it," said Los Angeles Judge Craig Karlan in his 2019 ruling for Hadid to demolish the illegally built hillside home.
"The demolition took a tremendous amount of money," Premiere Estates Auction Company's Todd Wohl told the outlet. "From the court's standpoint, the legal issues and the demolition costs have complicated the sale substantially."
