Longtime Santa Clara County Assessor to retire
Briefly

Santa Clara County Assessor Larry Stone announced his retirement after three decades in office, effective July 7, 2023. He will be succeeded by Assistant Assessor Greg Monteverde, as a special election will be held for the position until November 2026. Two candidates have already indicated their intentions to run, and Stone has expressed his trust in proper succession. He also highlighted the significance of implementing a new property tax management system, stating that he wished to ensure its success before leaving office.
The job of assessor is attractive with a salary of nearly $300,000 and no term limits, Stone said. He emphasized the importance of finding the right individuals for the role.
I knew I just couldn't leave until this critical project was moving forward. Now, with the new system ready to implement,...the timing feels right to step down.
