After nearly a year of legal disputes, the Gilroy city council is poised to settle with Gandolfi Investments over a proposed 530-unit development project, including affordable housing. The settlement will end ongoing lawsuits, provide the city with over $4 million, and is expected to help revitalize a long-neglected area. Mayor Greg Bozzo expressed optimism about the community development and the flexibility of the funds, which will address various city needs. Controversial aspects of the project and legal concerns repeatedly surfaced during the tumultuous lead-up to the 2024 elections.
Despite public comment asking for approval of the development, the city disputed whether the law applied, and in July 2024, the developer filed a lawsuit peppered with colorful assertions.
This is a great way to develop this portion of the community that has been not just undeveloped, but unplanned for so many years, said Gilroy Mayor Greg Bozzo.
