Elon Musk's New Company Town Tells Residents Their Rights Are Now Optional
Briefly

The formation of Starbase, Texas, a company town owned by SpaceX, poses a significant threat to residents' property rights. A leaked memo revealed that the town plans to implement zoning restrictions that could limit current property usage. Just 72 hours before a public hearing about zoning, residents are expected to review proposed maps detailing how land will be subdivided. Despite a successful vote for incorporation, many residents, predominantly SpaceX employees, may now face eminent domain-like circumstances regarding their properties.
As the Texas Tribune reported earlier this month, estimates taken prior to Starbase's incorporation found that the land had about 500 people living on it, with a bit over half of them being SpaceX employees.
The vote to officially incorporate Starbase into a city was... a landslide victory, 212 voted in favor of incorporation, while just six opposed.
