Buzzy SF bakery pivots to sandwiches at new outpost
"We really want to lean into Max's delicious savory items and expertise in sort of doing, like, more made-to-order sandwiches. It's something that we haven't been able to do, and I think would be really super fun."
"Everything, from their sourdough focaccia to baguettes, Dutch crunch and the sandwich fillers, will be made in-house, of course."
"The duo also plans to do 'giant' seasonal cake slices, like coconut layer cake with kumquat marmalade and roasted-strawberry layer cake during the summer."
Black Jet Baking Co., a popular San Francisco bakery in Bernal Heights, is expanding to the Outer Sunset neighborhood with a new concept called Black Jet Luncheonette. Opening in June 2026 at 4033 Judah Street, the new location will maintain the original's signature items including housemade pop-tarts, pies, cakes, croissants, and breakfast sandwiches. The expansion introduces a new focus on savory offerings, featuring four rotating sandwiches daily made in-house, including chicken salad and meatball grinders. All bread and fillings will be prepared on-site, alongside seasonal cake slices and classic pastries for morning customers.
