Will self-driving taxis come to West Valley? - San Jose Spotlight
Briefly

Waymo is looking to expand its self-driving car services beyond major cities by seeking approval from the California Public Utilities Commission to operate in small suburban areas like Los Gatos, Cupertino, and Campbell. Recently, the California DMV granted permits for the company to conduct testing without a safety driver across Santa Clara County. Local officials are supportive, highlighting the potential benefits of increased accessibility and mobility, though concerns about safety remain. The expansion will proceed gradually, emphasizing collaboration with local entities.
"Being able to get people into Waymo or Hopper might be more economically effective, and so it's exciting to hear that this is happening," Wang told San José Spotlight.
"Any expansion of the service will happen methodically over time, and as we grow, we'll continue to work with local communities, officials and emergency responders every step of the way," said the Waymo spokesperson.
