Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said the carmaker's ability to solve autonomous driving will determine its long-term value."
Sunday Robotics emerged from stealth and assembled a team that includes multiple former Tesla employees. At least 10 former Tesla staff now work at the startup, including engineers who worked on Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot and Autopilot self-driving programs. Perry Jia left Tesla after nearly six years to join Sunday Robotics, and Nadeesha Amarasinghe joined after more than seven years as an engineering lead for AI infrastructure. The startup employs around 50 people, including engineers and "memory developers" who assist in training the robot. Sunday Robotics was cofounded by Cheng Chi and Tony Zhao in 2024.
