"And, researchers studying the pollution from satellite megaconstellations found the soot from these launches may have some concerning climate effects."
Perseverance has spent five years studying Jezero Crater, a promising site for finding signs of ancient microbial life. The rover recently traveled beyond the crater rim to its farthest west explored location and took a selfie showing the rocky outcrop “Arathusa” in the “Lac de Charmes” region. The selfie was assembled from 61 images captured by the rover’s robotic arm camera on March 11, with an animation showing the camera head swiveling to view the surroundings. The rover later moved to “Arbot,” where Mastcam-Z produced a panorama from 46 stitched images. NASA notes that the area contains scientifically compelling terrain, including very old rocks likely formed after a meteorite impact nearly 3.9 billion years ago. Separately, researchers studying pollution from satellite megaconstellations found soot from launches may have concerning climate effects.
