The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry to Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson and Omar M. Yaghi for the development of metalorganic frameworks. The laureates developed porous, crystalline frameworks that enable storage, separation and catalysis by combining metal nodes with organic linkers. The Academy stated that the laureates have provided chemists with new opportunities for solving some of the challenges society faces. The announcement was made on October 8, 2025. Last year’s prize went to a US–UK team for protein structure prediction. The Nobel Prize in Chemistry was first awarded in 1901.
