""we were all in tears""
""It's strange to see your co-workers cry, but in that moment, it just made sense.""
""really unheard of elsewhere in the NASA mission space""
Pandora launched on the morning of 11 January aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. Pandora is the first satellite of NASA's Pioneers Program to reach space and is one of four satellites among seven current Pioneers missions. Each Pioneers mission has a budget cap of US$20 million, far smaller than flagship missions such as the $10-billion James Webb Space Telescope. Pandora will observe about 20 exoplanets and their host stars to investigate planetary atmospheres. Mission operations are based at the University of Arizona. More than half of Pandora’s leading scientists and engineers are early-career researchers, many experiencing their first spacecraft launch and taking on major responsibilities.
