NASA acting administrator says SpaceX is 'behind schedule' on moon-landing contract, so he's reopening it
"I'm in the process of opening that contract up. I think we'll see companies like Blue get involved, and maybe others,"
"We're going to have a space race in regard to American companies competing to see who can actually get us back to the moon first."
"A little COMPETITION doesn't hurt and it spurs INNOVATION! 💡American companies are going to be able to compete to see which one can get us back to the Moon first. 🇺🇸We going to beat China there and "
Sean Duffy, acting NASA administrator, will open the Artemis III lunar landing contract to other U.S. companies because SpaceX is behind schedule. Artemis III aims to land NASA astronauts back on the moon within roughly one and a half to two years, targeting a return before the end of President Donald Trump's term. The plan invites competition from American rocket firms such as Blue Origin, Rocket Lab, Boeing, and Lockheed Martin to accelerate development. Competition is intended to spur innovation, increase redundancy among contractors, and help ensure the United States reaches the moon ahead of China.
