The highlands of Iringa and Mafinga, with their sustained gradients and lower temperatures, formed the most demanding part of the crossing."
Kiira Motors completed a 1,771-kilometre Tanzania leg as part of a 30-day, 13,000-kilometre Grand Trans-Africa Electric Expedition spanning six African countries. The company is state-owned and focuses on development of zero-emission vehicles. The Mutukula–Tunduma corridor combined varied road surfaces, significant elevation changes and shifting climates, including low-density stretches, irregular surfaces south of Dodoma, the ascent into the Kitonga Hills, and demanding highland gradients and lower temperatures in Iringa and Mafinga. The 13-metre Kayoola electric coach’s operation on this route served as a technical assessment of long-distance electric coach behaviour and key engineering questions for regional electric mobility.
