"The term supermoon is used to describe full moons that appear larger and brighter than typical full moons,"
"The December 2025 full moon will be the final supermoon of the year. It will genuinely be slightly closer and therefore appear larger and brighter."
"At this perigee stage, the moon can appear up to 14 per cent larger and 30 per cent brighter than an average full moon,"
A supermoon will occur tonight when the Moon reaches perigee at about 221,965 miles (357,219 km) from Earth, closer than the average distance of 238,855 miles. The full Moon will appear noticeably larger and brighter due to the Moon's elliptical orbit, which brings it nearer at perigee and farther at apogee. At perigee a full Moon can appear up to about 14 percent larger and up to 30 percent brighter than an average full Moon. The Moon will reach fullness and closest approach around 23:14 UK time (18:14 EST). Observers can begin watching as it rises in the east around 14:52 GMT.
