California and Denmark signed a memorandum of understanding in San Francisco to strengthen commercial and research collaboration on green energy, sustainability, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. The agreement aims to expand joint projects, investments, and research partnerships between Danish national institutions and California-based companies and universities. Danish foreign minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen described the pact as the most comprehensive agreement Denmark has made with an American state. California leaders framed the partnership within broader international climate and technology collaborations that include Sweden, Mexico, and China. Climate experts noted that state-level international engagement fills gaps left by federal disengagement and accelerates climate solutions.
This is the most comprehensive kind of agreement we have made so far with any American state and we are extremely happy to do so," said Lars Løkke Rasmussen, foreign minister and former prime minister of Denmark.
International collaboration is going to continue to be an important part of tackling the climate crisis and with the lack of engagement of the federal government, states have an opportunity," Field said.
