Artemis II launch 'on track' for as soon as April, says NASA
"We are on track for a launch as early as April 1, and we are working toward that date. It's a test flight, and it is not without risk, but our team and our hardware are ready. Just keep in mind we still have work to finish."
"Artemis II would still be tens of thousands of miles closer than any human has been in more than 50 years. At this distance the moon will appear to the crew to be about the size of a basketball held at arm's length."
"Artemis II's launch was previously set for February but was postponed due to technical issues during testing. In particular, a problem with the flow of helium forced engineers to reschedule the mission, following prior delays."
NASA officials announced that the crewed Artemis II mission could launch as early as April 1, 2025, from Kennedy Space Center. This expedition would represent humanity's first journey to the moon in over 50 years and is part of the US goal to land on the moon by 2028. The mission was previously scheduled for February but postponed due to helium flow problems during testing. The 322-foot rocket must be moved to the launch pad at Cape Canaveral by March 19. If launch conditions are not met in early April, the four astronauts will wait until April 30 or early May. Artemis II will fly tens of thousands of miles closer to the moon than Artemis I, with the lunar surface appearing basketball-sized to the crew.
