Sharks' Macklin Celebrini gets Sidney Crosby stamp of approval for Olympic team
"He's earned the right to be in the conversation,"
"He's an incredible player,"
"Just his all-around game at his age is pretty impressive. He's committed defensively, he competes hard. He's got a pretty mature game for his age. I think having that experience at worlds can only help. I'm sure he built confidence from that."
Canada last won Olympic hockey gold in 2014 at Sochi, with Sidney Crosby helping secure the title. Crosby remains expected to be part of Canada’s 2026 Olympic team that will compete in Italy. Nineteen-year-old Macklin Celebrini attended the Canadian Olympic orientation camp and is seeking a forward spot on the roster. Celebrini recorded six points and finished the 2025 Men’s World Championships with a plus-nine in eight games while Canada suffered an upset loss to Denmark. Crosby praised Celebrini’s all-around play, defensive commitment, competitiveness and maturity for his age and said the World Championship experience likely boosted his confidence. Celebrini is one of 42 camp invitees competing for limited roster spots alongside established stars such as Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, Brayden Point and Sam Reinhart.
