Maxim Shabanov 'pops off the page' in pursuit of his NHL dream with NY Islanders
"I chose America because it's every kid's dream to play in the NHL,"
"He kind of pops off the page at you,"
"And he should-he's a little bit older and has the pedigree of playing in the KHL. You can see his skillset in the drills we're doing."
"I feel good, everything is a bit new but I'm ready to go. They're teaching me how to develop, just like everyone else."
Maxim Shabanov, a 24-year-old Russian winger, reported to the New York Islanders rookie camp with energy, confidence, and eagerness to prove himself. He recorded 67 points (23 goals, 44 assists) in 65 KHL games last season and finished third in league scoring. At 5'9" and 167 pounds, he embraces contact and the faster pace of smaller North American rinks. Bridgeport coach Rocky Thompson noted Shabanov's standout skillset and KHL pedigree. Teammates and Isles' Russian players have helped him acclimate off the ice. Shabanov is focused on development and is ready to compete for a lineup spot.
