The current lease, established in 2015, runs through July 2025, but the Sharks are eager for the city to address over $100 million in non-revenue-related maintenance costs. Despite San Jose's budget shortfall, upcoming major sporting events may boost the city's economy and positively influence negotiations.
Cities move slowly. That's just how life is. But I would be surprised if we don't work something out eventually.
There is more than $100 million in deferred maintenance that has nothing to do with revenue. The city should pay for at least some of that.
