""When seasons don't go the way you want them, it's never one person's fault. It's never one group's fault," said president of baseball operations Buster Posey on Monday. "But when they don't go the way you want, you can't, in my opinion, sit there and say, 'We're going to come back and do the same thing that we did this year for the next year. Having said that, that's part of why we landed where we landed.""
""I'd say what I want ... is somebody that's going to be obsessive about the details, obsessive about work, obsessive about getting the most out of our players, getting the most out of our staff," Posey said. "Somebody that will inspire confidence in our players on the field and also all the interactions that happen off the field as well.""
The San Francisco Giants fired manager Bob Melvin, marking the second managerial search in three years and the third consecutive year of a high-level leadership firing. President of baseball operations Buster Posey said seasons not going the way you want are not solely one person's fault, but that repeating the same approach cannot continue. Posey said he is "pretty open," has candidates in mind, and will not set a hiring timetable. Posey plans to draw on experiences with Bruce Bochy and Gabe Kapler and seeks a manager obsessive about details, work, maximizing players and staff, and inspiring confidence on and off the field. Six potential candidates are under consideration, including Schumaker and Hallberg.
