Fans booed the tackle across the ballpark, and players Jason Adam and Luis Arraez visibly expressed disgust at the takedown. Social media users largely agreed the fan should face consequences for running onto the field but criticized the aggressive response toward someone so young.
At one point in the game between the Padres and San Francisco Giants at Petco Park Tuesday night, a child jumped onto the field and began running in the outfield. In a video posted online, the kid was already on the field trying to evade security. Unfortunately for the young fan, he was quickly surrounded by stadium security. Despite his apparent young age, one of the guards aggressively tackled him from behind to bring him down.
Once he was apprehended, he was escorted out by an entourage of guards. Fans were not pleased by the hit on the kid and a chorus of boos rang out across the ballpark. Players also took exception to the hit. As it happened, pitcher Jason Adam and first baseman Luis Arraez appeared to respond with visible disgust when the kid was taken down.
