SF Giants' Webb sharp in final spring outing before joining Team USA for World Baseball Classic
"I definitely think there were some good nerves today, maybe knowing that I'm going to go pitch for Team USA, Webb said. Maybe that was in the back of my mind, but yeah, felt much-needed today. That was a good one to get out."
"Webb was so efficient (38 innings) that he went to the bullpen following his outing to throw about 15 more pitches. The right-hander is slated to throw around 60 pitches in his first start for Team USA, so the Giants had Webb get in a little more work after facing the Padres."
Logan Webb, a two-time All-Star pitcher for the San Francisco Giants, made his last Cactus League appearance at Scottsdale Stadium before transitioning to Team USA for the World Baseball Classic. In his final spring training outing, Webb pitched three efficient innings, allowing just one run in the first inning while striking out three batters and retiring the final seven consecutive batters. Following his appearance, Webb threw additional pitches in the bullpen to prepare for his upcoming role with Team USA. Manager Mark DeRosa has not yet confirmed Webb's start date, though Webb is currently lined up to pitch against Team Brazil on Friday. Webb will join Team USA for an exhibition game against the Giants on Tuesday at Scottsdale Stadium.
