"San Francisco Giants star Jung Hoo Lee was detained at Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday, according to a statement from Rep. Nancy Pelosi's office that was shared with multiple outlets. According to the San Francisco Standard, Lee forgot some documents needed to return to the United States and was being held by Customs and Border Patrol. Lee's agent, Scott Boras, told the San Francisco Chronicle it was "not anything political or anything like that," and said Lee was released about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday."
"In their statement, Pelosi's office said they are working with "the Giants organization, Congressional partners and federal liaisons to resolve this situation." Officials from the Giants, Major League Baseball and LAX did not respond to SFGATE's requests for comment before publication. Lee is one of the featured Giants stars set to appear at the team's FanFest Tour stop in San Ramon on Saturday. It's the first time the Giants have held a fan event in the East Bay since the A's moved from Oakland to Sacramento."
"Lee spoke to reporters at the Incheon International Airport in Seoul in a press conference before boarding his flight to LAX. According to Korea JoongAng Daily, Lee said his struggles at the plate during the 2025 season led to "mental struggles" that impacted other aspects of his game. Lee went back to South Korea shortly after the regular season ended, speaking to local reporters at Incheon airport upon his arrival at the end of September. A large contingent of Giants personnel - including president of baseball operations Buster Posey, new manager Tony Vitello and shortstop Willy Adames - went to visit Lee in his home country earlier this month."
