Houston Astros pitcher Forrest Whitley has changed his jersey number to 55 to honor Tim Lincecum, his lifelong favorite player. At 27, Whitley was just nine years old when Lincecum debuted, which evokes feelings of nostalgia among fans. Despite feeling old as a fan realizing Whitley's age in relation to his favorite player, the gesture is appreciated. Whitley, who debuted in 2024, faced challenges including a knee injury but has made a comeback, pitching effectively in his debut with Lincecumâs number.
Chandler Rome of The Athletic posted on the app formerly known as Twitter announcing that Whitley was changing his jersey number to 55. This is in honor of his life-long favorite baseball player, former San Francisco Giants starting pitcher and Forever Giant Legend Tim Lincecum.
Whitley debuted in the 2024 season and wore the number 60. His 2025 season was delayed due to a bone bruise on his knee that saw him start the season on the injured list.
