At the top of the eighth inning at Petco Park, a child ran onto the field and circled right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. before security grabbed him. Seconds after restraint, another security member tackled the child from behind and a third officer added weight, bringing the child to the ground. Fans booed the extra physicality. The television broadcast did not show the incident, though Padres pitcher Jason Adam grimaced and appeared to say, "He's a kid," with jeers audible. Later, an adult spectator ran across the outfield and was tackled amid a less hostile crowd reaction. San Francisco lost 5-1.
Video from the incident shows the child circling right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. a couple of times before one member of security is able to grab him. Just seconds after he was restrained, another member of ballpark security tackled the kid from behind and brought the child to the ground as a third member of security added their weight to the takedown.
Those who watched the game on the Padres' television broadcast did not get to see this incident happen, as the camera remained focused on Padres pitcher Jason Adam, catcher Elias Diaz, Giants batter Heliot Ramos and home plate umpire John Libka. However, viewers did get to see Adam's reaction, who grimaced and then appeared to say, "He's a kid." The jeers were also audible on the broadcast.
While this fan was also tackled, the response from the Padres crowd was much less hostile to this takedown. That probably had to do with the fact that the tackle wasn't a cheap shot, nor was it on a young child. However, it just as easily could have been that those fans were enjoying the fact that they saw more field invaders (two) than Giants runs (one) that night.
