The Natural is a batting cage and event space located at 358 Brannan St. in San Francisco, which opened in May. Hannon Smith, the business owner, believes in the significance of bringing back elements of baseball culture, notably through a newly created mural of Giants superstar Tim Lincecum. Although Smith grew up in the punk music scene and quit baseball at an early age, his passion for the sport was revived through the Pacific Coast Hardball League. He aimed to establish The Natural as a tribute to his love for baseball and community engagement.
The Natural is a batting cage and event space at 358 Brannan St. that officially opened its doors in May for all comers.
It's believed to be the first mural of the famously reclusive Lincecum in the city since he retired, which is something that business owner and operator Hannon Smith felt was missing in the city.
Smith admitted he quit baseball in the sixth grade and was raised in the punk music scene, but baseball has always been in the back of his mind.
Smith described the Pacific Coast Hardball League as 'a group of artists, service workers, punks that just decided one day that they wanted to, like, play sandlot baseball.'
