"Newsome was drafted by the Browns in 2021 and played 67 games with 54 starts and has four interceptions with 42 pass deflections. He lost his starting job in 2024 after the Browns exercised his fifth-year option but regained it last season. However, Newsome was traded to the Jaguars after five games."
"Ricard was a six-time Pro Bowl selection with the Ravens and is reunited with Giants coach John Harbaugh. He agreed to a two-year deal worth up to $8.5 million. Ricard, on the other hand, brings a new dimension to the Giants offense. He blocked for Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry in Baltimore and now he'll do the same for Jaxson Dart, Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy Jr."
"He'll be first in line to compete for the starting cornerback job opposite Paulson Adebo. However, the Giants could seek more depth given the lack of production at that position. Deonte Banks was demoted as a starter continued to struggle last season when on the field."
The Giants signed cornerback Greg Newsome II to a one-year deal worth up to $10 million and fullback Patrick Ricard to a two-year deal worth up to $8.5 million. Newsome, previously with the Jaguars after a trade from the Browns, will compete for the starting cornerback position opposite Paulson Adebo. Ricard, a six-time Pro Bowl selection with the Ravens, reunites with Giants coach John Harbaugh and brings blocking experience for the offense. The team also signed kicker Jason Sanders and re-signed linebacker Micah McFadden to one-year deals. These signings address depth concerns at cornerback and add offensive support.
