Former SF Giants Lopez, Casali join front office as advisors to baseball operations
"Javy was great on the teams that I had, special advisor to baseball operations Bruce Bochy told this news organization. He was the leader of the bullpen, got things in order there. He's a guy that wasn't afraid to call somebody out if necessary. I'm not surprised at all that Javy's heading to the front office. I've always respect how he carried himself, how he was around the players, how much respect the had from all the players."
"Lopez, 48, was a member of the Giants' Core Four along with Sergio Romo, Santiago Casilla and Jeremy Affeldt, helping lead the Giants to World Series titles in 2010, '12 and '14. The left-hander spent seven seasons of his 14-year major-league career in San Francisco from 2010-16, posting a 2.47 ERA over 446 appearances with the Giants in the regular season and a 1.38 ERA over 25 games in the postseason. Lopez, who also serves as a broadcaster, won a World Series with the Boston Red Sox in 2007 as well."
Javier Lopez and Curt Casali will join the Giants' front office as advisors to baseball operations. Paul Bien was promoted to assistant general manager of baseball analytics after four seasons as the team's vice president to baseball analytics. Bruce Bochy described Lopez as a bullpen leader who organized the relief corps, could call players out when necessary and earned widespread respect. Lopez, 48, was part of the Giants' Core Four and helped the club win World Series titles in 2010, 2012 and 2014, compiling a 2.47 ERA in 446 regular-season appearances and a 1.38 ERA in 25 postseason games. Casali, 37, appeared in 159 games for the Giants over three seasons, served as Buster Posey's backup in 2021, was traded to the Mariners in 2022 and returned to San Francisco in May 2024.
