Former Blues Defenseman Claimed Off Waivers By Sharks
Briefly

Nick Leddy was claimed off waivers by the San Jose Sharks, concluding his time with the St. Louis Blues. Leddy, 34, had one year remaining on his contract with a $4 million cap hit. The Blues faced a roster crunch after acquiring Logan Mailloux and center Pius Suter, leading to Leddy's expendability. General manager Doug Armstrong noted the need to provide ice time to emerging players like Tyler Tucker. Despite efforts to facilitate a trade, waivers became the final option to alleviate the team's cap situation.
One of the things too is the coach who selects who goes over the boards is a big Tucker fan. He thought that that's an element that our team, when he's on the ice, when he's playing, we're harder to play against and I think as a group, he likes that.
There's risk involved with that obviously. Nick's an experienced player, has had a very good career, will go to San Jose and do very well, but you have to create space if you want to give ice time away and that was one way to do that.
