Dmitry Orlov has signed with the San Jose Sharks after leaving the Carolina Hurricanes. With a long NHL career beginning in 2011 at the Washington Capitals, he previously had brief tenures with the Boston Bruins and Hurricanes. Orlov expresses a need for a change after difficult recent years. He emphasizes focusing on day-to-day improvement and is optimistic about joining a youthful Sharks team. Orlov acknowledges the rebuilding phase but is eager to embrace new experiences and contribute with his extensive postseason knowledge.
"When I signed in Raleigh you expect one thing. When [your play is not] showing up or the coach is not believing you, and it's always the bottom [pair]," Orlov said. "Everybody has their own story and own career. So I learned on my way, and I just need to be more focused as an older guy, more experienced. I expect one thing, but you need to just focus day by day, basically."
"I know it's kind of a rebuild, but [we] have a lot of good young players," he said. "For me I just want to change a little bit, [after the] last two years, it wasn't easy for me mentally."
"So, I just tried to move far away with a new team and a new life for me. It's going to be interesting, and I'm actually pretty excited for that."
"I talked to the coaches and GM a little bit about when they're going to get [to the playoffs]," Orlov added. "When you get there, you're going to know more systems."
