"In the leadup to the World Baseball Classic, the Giants will welcome Webb and Team USA for an exhibition at Scottsdale Stadium. With nothing on the line, who better to face the likes of Willy Adames, Matt Chapman, Rafael Devers and Bryce Eldridge than Webb? That matchup won't be in the cards. While Webb declined to say when he's scheduled to pitch for Team USA, he did share that he won't toe the slab against his teammates."
"For all of Webb's excitement, the Giants aren't exactly thrilled about their ace's participation. A two-time All-Star, Webb is the anchor of a rotation littered with question marks. The Giants inked right-handers Tyler Mahle and Adrian Houser, but the team's starting five current projects as one of the weaker units in the majors. Webb has been one of baseball's most durable starters over the last five seasons, but the competitive nature of the tournament will throw a wrench into his meticulous preseason ramp-up."
Logan Webb will participate for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. He declined to say when he will pitch for Team USA but will not face his Giants teammates in the exhibition at Scottsdale Stadium. Webb wanted to pitch in 2023 but negotiations on a five-year, $90 million extension canceled those plans. Webb plans several starts for the Giants when Cactus League play begins Feb. 21 and expects Team USA tournament play to begin March 6 in Houston. He is trying to treat the offseason as normal while anticipating increased adrenaline during the tournament. The Giants are uneasy given questions in their rotation despite additions of Tyler Mahle and Adrian Houser.
