At this year's Bay to Breakers in San Francisco, thousands of participants enjoyed perfect weather and creative costumes, but many were disappointed by a medal shortage. Participants finishing after 11:40 a.m. were notified that, due to a substantial number of unregistered runners, their medals would be mailed later. This mishap led to dissatisfaction among seasoned racers, with comments noting the event seemed more chaotic than in years past. Event organizers apologized for the confusion and emphasized the necessity of discouraging unofficial participation to prevent future shortages.

Although we work hard to prohibit it, there were a significant number of unregistered runners which led to a run on medals.
