SFUSD paraeducators missing summer pay ahead of new school year, union says
Briefly

San Francisco Unified employees, particularly paraeducators, are experiencing significant financial strain due to missing summer pay. Margaret Kothmann, a special education aide, expressed shame regarding her employer as she faces unmet income needs. Many paraeducators, who manage their living expenses with accrued vacation hours, are waiting for compensation. Union representative Teanna Tillery reported that numerous aides have contacted her for assistance, with some receiving eviction warnings for unpaid rent. The district acknowledges the payroll issues and is working to address these discrepancies promptly.
"I'm ashamed that that's my employer," said Margaret Kothmann, a special education aide who doesn't work or get paid during the summer because she is a paraeducator.
"Many of us plan to use those vacation hours in the summer recess because we cannot collect unemployment, we will not be paid."
Kothmann is missing about $1,200 worth of pay, money she needs and now.
"They've gotten 30-day notices because they have not been able to pay their rent yet," said Tillery.
