""There is no hiccup with breakfast, because it is so important. I work with the community, and I see them, we will do anywhere between five and 700 meals for breakfast on any given day," said Monique Mattox, one of GLIDE's Free Meals Supervisors."
""GLIDE has been there for my family when people were not in the best situations," she said, "Part of why I'm here is I want to give back to an organization that has done so much to be a blessing to me and to be a blessing to this city.""
Glide Memorial Church hosted a Thanksgiving celebration in San Francisco, distributing thousands of meals across the city. Volunteers carved 130 turkeys and 70 hams to assemble Thanksgiving Day meals for community members in need. Volunteers also prepared and handed out breakfast to hundreds, serving between five hundred and seven hundred meals on a typical morning. GLIDE staff and volunteers welcomed increasing numbers of families, some with four or five children, whose parents reported insufficient funds to feed their children. Former Mayor London Breed participated in serving meals and expressed gratitude toward GLIDE. The event demonstrated strong volunteer engagement and heightened local demand for food assistance.
