The official lighting quietly took place on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, and the display will remain visible through Thursday, January 1, 2026. There was no large public lighting ceremony in 2025, and large official ceremonies with performances have not been held since before the COVID-19 pandemic. The display is free to watch in Union Square Park at Geary and Powell, across from Macy's flagship location, which will stay open and undergo a makeover.
