The foggy skies can contribute to low visibility for flights, forcing air traffic controllers to slow down the cadence of takeoffs and landings. There have been 159 flight delays at SFO on Thursday as of publication, according to FlightAware. The average delay is 68 minutes but is expected to improve throughout the day. The maximum delay is 3 hours and 20 minutes."

SkyWest, which operates flights for United, Delta, American Airlines and Alaska, had 40 flights delayed as of publication. The delay was assigned to airports within 1,400 nautical miles and included Vancouver International Airport, Edmonton International Airport, Calgary International Airport, Victoria International Airport and Kelowna International Airport. The weather is not affecting any other nearby airports."
